About Us

The Muswellbrook Cats where formed in 1988 and played in the Newcastle football league until 1993. The team dissolved but was reformed in 2003 joining in Tamworth football league (TAFL).

The Cats had a great deal of success in the TAFL finishing just outside the top four in 2003. In 2004 the club made the TAFL finals but were unfortunately eliminated in the first semi-final. In 2005 the Cats enjoyed a remarkable year in which at the half way point were sitting second bottom of the league ladder with just two wins and six losses. But the team lifted themselves winning 10 of their next 12 games, making the finals and defeating the Inverell Saints, Tamworth Kangaroos before coming back from an 18 point deficit at three-quarter-time and taking the grand final by 3 points against the Tamworth Swans.

In 2014 the Cats made the move into the BDAFL (Newcastle) entering a senior team in the second division competition. This meant that both Senior and Junior teams would be playing side-by-side in Newcastle. In their first season playing in the BDAFL the team had a strong season finishing sixth overall only 2 wins out from making the finals.

In 2023 the club is looking forward to regrouping their women's side, as well as developing its player base through its junior grades.
