The Muswellbrook cats started their 2018 BDAFL campaign with a win for both the men and women’s team last Saturday, when they travelled to the Central Coast to take on The Entrance Bateau Bay. The women’s game was first and it was an impressive start kicking 3 goals and going into the quarter time break with a 3.3.21 to 0.1.1 lead. The girls came back out strong and continued on from their first quarter efforts and the goals kept coming. Leading goal kicker Gyarn Rawson was superb on the boot kicking 5 goals for the day. Other goal kickers included Nicola Benkovic, Jessica Higham, Tiarne Forder, Caterina Zanier and Emma Wilkins all kicking 1 goal each, making the final score 11.10.76 to 1.1.7. Best on ground players were: Paris Adam, Nicola Benkovic, Gyarn Rawson and Samantha Rodrigues. Our men’s team kept the theme going when they put on a great performance to get the win in their match. Some big hits and pin point kicks kept the Cats in front the whole game. Adam Higham starred in a best on ground performance kicking 3 goals, Mason Solly kicked 2 and a host of other players that were Broque Smith, Callum Strachan, Jayden Galvin, Michael Duck, Matthew Dunn, Jeremy Smith, Sam White and Kyle Bray all kicked 1 goal. Final score being 13.13.91 to 5.4.34 Others for best on ground were Jordan Solly, Tate Barry, Jedd Stojakovich and Jackson Channon. Both coaches were extremely happy with the overall performance from all players and the Cats will have a lot of confidence and momentum going into this Saturday when they both travel to Maitland to take on the Saints.
